The 250 copy edition sold out within hours which is not unusual, but the first posts about it were in the early morning hours (3-4am pacific time) leaving many folks in the USA, especially outside of the east coast out of luck. For those in the USA that did manage to get a copy, the books were sent more or less with H&S's usual overseas shipping method, which is a form fitting box with minimal additional packing, leaving a number of copies with some damage around the corners as the book jostled around. Something to look out for when buying these on the secondary market.

There were 9 different variants of the 1st trade edition produced in the UK, although none of them were signed by King. I'm listing them all here for the sake of being thorough: tdt.org has an excellent page up with photos of all variants. . All variants seem to be selling for between $30-$50

  • Four different WH SMITH variants with a "collectors edition exclusive to WH Smith" with purple DJ. On the boards of the book one of four different animals are embossed in blue (Fox, Moth, Snake, Tiger).

  • Four different Hodder & Stoughton variants with a "Featuring Limited Edition Hidden Cover Illustration" sticker on the DJ. On the boards of the book one of four different animals are embossed in purple (Fox, Moth, Snake,

  • One Tesco variant with a blue cover and "Tesco Limited edition" sticker. On the boards will be only one animal, a peacock embossed in blue.
